I think there are a few options we can consider to make stalemates less frustrating and more exciting:
  • Prevent stalemates. If one team takes the flag while the other team has their flag, the other team loses the flag. It either returns immediately to the flag post, or it kills the flag holder and drops where the flag holder died.
  • Encourage the flag holder to stay away from their side. If they die while on their team's side, the flag is dropped and immediately returned. If they die on the enemy's side, the flag is only dropped.
  • Incentivize the flag holder to participate. Points gained from all sources are tripled, so if the flag holder kills someone or opens a crate, they gain triple the points.
Woah, there. No to the first point. That is too drastic of a change to the game, in my opinion. And to add to your second point, I've suggested a click to return the flag, and I think someone else turned it into a click to take your own flag and bring it back to the flagpost, which I think will be a better route, and it will also encourage more teamwork. And that's the opponent's punishment for dying anyway. So if no one is there, the flag is still where it's dropped and the attackers still have a shot to steal it, and sitting there waiting for the flag to return sucks, especially if it's right by the spawn (which people have been abusing). I think it should return automatically if it sits there for 10 seconds. I'm not sure if I like tripling the points in your third point, but maybe double?
