About two days ago Maxi called me Commander, joking, but I have been thinking; There has to be way to show more experienced players.
I know that there are ranks , which many can asset that they don't matter, but if you stop playing because you have to attend to something for days or even weeks, perhaps a computer problem. Your abilities and potential does not change, if anything you are going to transcend above of what you already are. Yet your rank changes negatively. What I propose is to have some sort of system with military ranks. Something that shows you have been here and know what you are doing. First thing first, we shall emulate parliamentary procedures. Right now just type yes or no. Later comes the "how".
Idk, it's creative might be nice, but I don't think we really need it...
Let us not create arbitrary ranks to make ourselves feel better about ourselves. My vote is no, due to this giving unneeded confidence in ones abilities. Also, this is another way for older players to put themselves ahead of newer players. We want to encourage our newer players.

Still, I like that you are thinking! If people didn't create these suggestions for me to shut down, I don't know what i would do.
Interesting, but I'm trying to avoid anything that makes new players feel alienated. It's the same reason I got rid of the store.
It was just a suggestion, ty for the replies

Then what is the point of a leaderboard if a new player is in 2134th place place and someone else on is like 6th place
There's a difference between a number next to your name when you join and "HEY THIS GUY IS A GENERAL, RESPECT HIM!".

How about condemning ranks

Instead of something like "[Grand Knight: Lancer] XenonMan"
We can do something like "[Grand Scrub] Makoto"

This is genius make it happen
Try hard.
@Smunches 6th place huh... Well this is awkward... Lol :b

Hmm... I'm really divided on this one. I think we can all agree that our positions on the leaderboards don't really mean anything apart from how regularly we play. To an extent, it does show who the "better" players are but it's extremely inaccurate.

"There has to be (a) way to show more experienced players."
The thing about systems like this is that it is rather difficult to "place" players because well, what is "experienced"? Also, what should we be looking at to gauge who is "better"?

Let's just say there's player A and player B.

Player A is relatively new, a good TNT spammer and averages 40 kills a game.
Player B has played for a much longer time than player A, however relies on tagging and mining more than TNTing. Thus he has an average of 25 kills a game.

*Any similarities to actual events or players are purely coincidental... Lies:b*

In the above scenario, who can be said to be the better player?
It's not even a question that the most common way players are killed in CTF is by TNT, and the games usually flow in favour of the team with stronger TNT users. Does this necessarily mean that player A is "better" than player B? Is player B the more "experienced" and therefore "better" player because of the fact that he has been playing for longer?

Just looking at player A and B alone, it can be said that they have both had different experiences while playing CTF. Player A definitely has more experience in areas like TNT fights, capturing and attacking, but player B almost certainly has more knowledge in mine placement, timing tags and defending.

To sum up everything so far, a good system to rank players is almost impossible because of the fact that everyone has different skillsets, playstyles and situations to deal with.

What I mean by "situations" are things like this:
1) Is the player on a team with clearly strong players against a bunch of noobs?
2) Is the player being 2v1ed in fights?
3) Is the player being active on offense or defense?
4) What is the player currently feeling? (This may sound strange but it's true that we play differently when the score is something like 4-0, and depending on which side we're on we'll either be feeling "We got dis" or "Fuck we're completely boned. /spec /rq"
etc.

It's safe to say that we all come from different timezones. Therefore we play with different people under different circumstances at different times in the day. Thus, there are times when we are in optimal conditions and at our 100%, and other times when it's just not our day.

Finally, the game is called "Capture The Flag". (Yes I know it's called Minecraft but that's not the poi- You know what nevermindd...) Does this mean the people who just rush for captures and run are the best players of all?

There was an intense game I had awhile back. I joined the 5v4 fray on Outpost when the score was 2-0. Upon joining it was almost simultaneously 3-0 ._. (My luck amazes me) Anyways, after being killed several times trying the direct approach, I decided to be sneakier. This meant that for the rest of the game, while my teammates were keeping the other team occupied, I was simply running back and forth, capturing the flag 4 times. On my last run back I was killed and dropped the flag, but someone picked it up and the game ended in a complete turnaround, 4-5. Does this mean my cowardly strategy of just running makes me a better player than everyone else? Simply put, no. I don't think it does.

[Also before anyone gets butthurt that is NOT how I usually play and I'm almost ashamed for doing it. ...Almost :b]

With all this having been said, I think my point has been made. It is very difficult to rank players because, well, what do we use to rank them?

Anyways, I'd like to suggest titles. They may be pointless and have no effect on the game whatsoever, but this way people can be things like [Commander]WaffleNinja6000 and [Doodler]T97 (Obviously Big Grin)

(Also, why is everything I post so boring T.T lololol)
