I'd say you should play music that corresponds with the current situation in a game. For example, you could probably play some intense, upbeat music when someone from a team takes the opposing team's flag and must return to his base.

that would be totally rad, but that would require some extra work for song transitions or fade ins/outs, or constant annoying alt-tabbing on my end to change music because i have only one monitor.
personally, i think map-specific upbeat music is nice because the energy has to be consistent throughout an entire game, regardless if it's boring at any moment.

When I play ctf, I have a live pianist on skype playing the type of music necessary for the situation. I would suggest that.
