Do you mean pillaring while bridging backwards? Because I myself do that, including just a normal pillar going upwards. In my opinion it's a great tactic/technique to use against players who place TNT extremely quick. It can allow you to lure in a player and have the chance to either tag or jump off and TNT them when they don't expect it. Though it does take a lot practice and time to perfect, especially when you are facing regular players, who probably know how to counter that pacific tactic quite well. Try to be less predictable. Use different pillaring techniques such as small pillars then changing it to big pillars (randomly) or place a hidden mine as a trap, without the player realising and before you start pillaring.

No, he means making a bridge. You know, like a sideways pillar.

I like to focus on my tnt but, when I get the flag I like to use alternate routes. and if my team is in a tight spot I will go the back ways. It all depends to me on what position my team is in.
