Now that compound's been gone for a couple of weeks I think we are all realizing that it kicks ass and we want it back, and I feel like jacob and eo were the only ones who didn't like it anyways

Welcome to Jacob_'s Minecraft Capture the Flag! We are one of the first Minecraft CTF servers and still add new features regularly. This server is made for the original version of Minecraft (now called Classic) so it's completely free! Minecraft Classic is no longer updated, but a group of players and developers are now working on ClassiCube, an updated version with more features and better compatibility. To play on our server using ClassiCube, download the free client and search for Capture the Flag in the server list. Log in or Register to get full access to the forums. |

Honestly, the problem lies not in the maps, but in the mindset of our players. I'll use fort as an example. There is a MASSIVE tunnel underneath the buildings that people could easily be using to get to the flag with virtually no opposition. Yet most people prefer to charge on the ground. CTF is partly about capturing and winning and partly about racking up kills and points. It's been that way for a while, and it's not necessarily a bad thing. However, when you have two teams of equal skills levels facing each other and they all play this way save one or two people, a stalemate is to be expected. Granted, compound doesn't have some sort of side-route that can be used to possibly break the stalemate, but maps like sector9 give the same "lockdown" sort of gameplay. The difference is compound's very straightforward look and style make it more obvious and more open to criticism. tdm was invented for point racking and killing sprees. Despite that, the tdm mentality is still strong and honestly a core part of CTF. I personally do not like the tdm-ing but it's a part of the server and people like it. It's how we work. tl;dr compound leaving/entering isn't going to make or break my day, but it seemed to be getting criticized for something it's not responsible for.

Compound is literally a 32x64x32 box (correct me if I'm wrong). I just didn't want it either so I actually agree with eo & Jacob in this perspective. Maps like these have games that can possibly go on for hours until everyone just gets bored and quits most likely getting passed. To me this just kills the vibe of the game when this map gets picked over and over again (just like the huge stadium issue before).

I don't like compound, and I said before, the best idea would be to put the map in the mapbuild, and apply edits that would allow the game to flow smoothly. Because there is dissent on this topic that doesn't seem to want to go away, with the anti-compounders saying "compound promotes spawncamping, it encourages stalemated games, and the entire concept of the map ends with people just leaving after getting bored" and the compounders just saying, "it kicks ass, put it back in! I wanna place my mines in unfair positions around the main exit to the spawn while tnting people inside in a battle that is clearly in my favor so I can rack up mad points!" So Jacob_ is almost certainly not going to put it back unless some major changes are enacted, because while we think this is a democracy, he is actually in charge.
I'm for compound and unless I lost my reading abilities I said none of that. But if y'all don't want it I'm not gonna fight for it.

Surely something could be done to make spawn camping a little less op even though that's pretty much the entire premise of the map ![]() Edit: like adding another way to get around the giant cluster fuck that happens right at the place where everyone puts the mines ![]() |
