In my opinion I am one of the most active players on this server and because of this I've noticed the pattern that seems to be the reason for the depressing inactivity lately.
Firstly, you must be aware that this server is only really active at 3 or 4 times in the day, be it weekday or weekend. That said, the number of people active on weekends tends to be significantly higher.
The times are: 3am-6am(usually), 7am-10am(usually), 3pm-6pm(sometimes) and 9pm-12am(occasionally). The "peak" of this server is usually on the weekend in between the 3am-6am and 7am-10am time frames. This is loosely recorded in SGT (GMT+8:00), feel free to convert it to whichever timezone you live in. [Click this link or Google it :b]
Secondly, there are three types of people. The first joins the server regardless of whether there is anyone online. Let's call him the "trigger" player. The second joins when there is at least one player online. The third joins when there are 3 or more players online. It must be said that the only reason players have access to this information is because of the superb chat system we have on the forum that allows us to see the map being played on and the number of players online. As of today, this function seems to have been removed (bug or not I don't know) and I hope it remains this way as I believe a key factor in the inactivity of late is this function.
Thirdly, as you may have noticed from what I wrote above, people only start to join when there is a "trigger" player online. This "trigger" player is basically the person who doesn't mind being the only one online for hours and stays in anticipation of other players. In my time I've only seen a handful of regular "trigger" players.
The main reason for the mass inactivity of all time frames is because recently the activity of these "trigger" players has gone down. Because of this, the number of people playing on the server has declined and we are starting to lose players.
Normally in my boring half-assed long, long, longggg posts I conclude with a solution but alas I do not have one for this. The only thing I can say is I hope to see more "trigger" players in our community.
Here's to the rekindling of the flame that was once Jacob_'s CTF. Cheers
