The real issue I believe is the fact that the server is usually empty. Nobody wants to go to an empty server, so although an advertisement might bring awareness, it's usefulness will be limited. People already know we exist, it's just that they choose not to visit the server.
Another issue to be concerned with is the difficulty of the game. As far as I know, many newcomers leave after a few games of CTF and never come back because they find themselves fighting against skilled players who regularly play CTF. We should find a way to either lower the difficulty or increase the skill and knowledge of newcomers.
One last thing to consider is the idea of modifying the current CTF game in some way to create a fresh new CTF game. Breathing this new life into CTF may promote new people and older players who have played in the past to try this new CTF.
